Barrueta, Barry 3-point Barrage Sinks Tars.

The Rollins Tars (9-4 2-2 SSC) could not overcame 22 3-pointer's by Barry, including 10 by Yunio Barrueta in a 98-85 loss at the Barry Sport and Health Center in Miami Shores Saturday.  After leading by four at halftime, the Tars were done in by the 3-point shooting of the SSC's leading scorer. With the win Barry improved to 9-2 (3-1 SSC.)
Barrueta  scored 30 of his 40 points in the second half to pass the Buccaneers. He drilled nine of his 10 3 pointer's in the second stanza. Going 10 of 16 from the 3-point line in the victory.  Two other Barry players quietly scored in double figures as well.  Undra Mitchem scored 15- while Arie Williams added 11.  The Bucs shot 48 percent from the floor on the day. They stayed perfect (6-0 at home) by shooting 52 percent (22-42) from the 3-point line. This included shooting 67 percent (14-21) in the second half.  The Bucs shot 67 percent (10-15) at the foul line.  They had 30 assists on 33 made baskets.  The Bucs turned the ball over 13 times.
The Tars had four players score in double figures in what would be a fourth consecutive loss.  Sam Philpott had a new career high with 18 points in 26 minutes- Deion Clark and Jeff Merton added 16. While Sharif Almulla scored 14. The Tars shot 47 percent as a team. They were just six of 21 (29 percent) from the 3-point line.  The Tars shot at a 72 percent clip (13-18) at the free throw line.  They out rebounded the Bucs 38-35.  The Tars had 17 assists and 13 turnovers.
Barry got off to a quick start as they would drill three 3-pointer's early to take a 13-6 lead at the first media timeout.  The Tars would get to within five a few minutes later after a Joey Galvis 3-pointer, but Barry would go on a quick 7-0 spurt to open up a 12 point lead (28-16.)  A traditional 3-point play by Mike Bedulskis would get the Tars within five at 35-30. Kyle Koszuta would hit a pair of free throws to get it back to five after another Barry hoop.
Rollins would score eight of the next 11 points to knot the game at 38 after a Philpott bucket at 3:08 mark of the opening half. The Tars would score eight of the last 12 points and take a 46-42 lead into the half against the team that was picked to win the SSC in the preseason.  Almulla (12 points) and Clark (10) would lead the Tars in scoring in the opening half. Barry was led by Mitchum with 11 and Barrueta with 10.  Alex Blessig played four minutes in the opening half for Rollins. His first action after missing nine games with a broken finger.
The Tars would get off to a good start in the second half and led by seven (55-48) at the 16:30 mark.
The Tars and Bucs would trade buckets as Rollins would lead by five (65-60) with 12:29 to go. The three 3-pointer's in a row by Barrueta would just be the beginning of an incredible shooting half.  Over the next 6:18 seconds Barry would go on a 26-6 run to take a 15 point lead (86-71) with 6:11 to go.  The Tars would get to within nine at the 1:24 mark but that is as close as they would get.
The Tars will be back in action Wednesday when Lynn comes to Warden Arena. Tip time from Winter Park is set for 7:30. You can catch all the action on the Geico Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com and on 91.5 FM WPRK.
