Rollins Rolls Past Lynn To Snap Skid.

The Rollins Tars snapped a four game losing skid in a big way with a 85-69 win over the Lynn Fighting Knights at Warden Arena Wednesday. The Tars never trailed in the game. They improved to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in the SSC. Lynn dropped to 6-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
Sharif Almulla paced four Rollins players in double figures in the game. Almulla netted 18 points- Jeff Merton added 16- Sam Philpott also scored 16- and- Mike Bedulskis chipped in 10 for the Tars.  The Tars got back to what was winning them games during the nine game win streak to start the season (shooting the ball very well.)  They shot 57 percent from the floor (27-47) and went 10-18 (56 percent) from the 3-point line.  The Tars shot 75 percent (21-28) from the free throw line.  They out rebounded Lynn 32-28.  The Tars had 20 assists to go along with 14 turnovers.
The Fighting Knights were led by 21 points from Fred Landers- Ben Berry also scored in double figures with 14- while David Jonson scored eight.  Lynn shot 39 percent as a team. They shot 30 percent (7-23) from the 3-point line.  The Fighting Knights shot at a 78 percent clip (18-23) from the free throw line.  They had 16 assists and 12 turnovers.
The Tars got off to a quick start early. They hit five of six shots to begin the game and jumped out to a seven point lead. Lynn would fight back and tie the game at 15 with 13:47 in the half.  Merton would spark a 10-0 Rollins run that would give them a lead they would not relinquish.  The Tars biggest lead was 14 and they would take a 41-31 lead into the locker room. A lead that could have been bigger had it not been for 13 turnovers in the opening half.
The Tars would control the second half.  Lynn would get to within eight (58-50) at the 11:06 mark. The Tars would never look back and cruise to the victory. After 13 first half turnovers Rollins would only commit one in the second stanza. They would also get a big lift off the bench from Eric Castaneda in this one. Castaneda was a perfect three of three from the floor- he would add five rebounds as well in 12 minutes of action.  Joey Galvis was not able to play as he went thru the concussion protocol after hitting his head on the floor at Barry Saturday.
The Tars will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Saint Leo. Tip time at the Marion Bowman Center is set for 4 PM. You can catch all the action on the Geico Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com and on 91.5 FM WPRK.
