The Tars are coming off a hard fought 59-58 victory at Tampa the last time out. Joey Galvis continued his solid season, leading the way with 14 points- Sam Philpott was the only other Tar in double figures with 11. Rollins also got nine points and five rebounds each from Alex Blessig and Jeff Merton as the Tars completed the season sweep of the Spartans. The Tars shot 43 percent from the field in this one- they had a rare tough night at the free throw line, where they shot 50 percent (11-22.) Tampa shot 33 percent from the field (21-63-) and 29 percent from the 3-point line (11-38.)
The Tars go into Saturday averaging 83.4 points a night on the offensive end. They are second in the SSC behind first place Eckerd on the defensive end, as they are giving up 73.4 points a night. The Tars are having a solid season shooting the ball, as evidenced by the 49 percent clip from the field- 38 percent from the 3-point line- and nearly 80 percent shooting from the free throw line.
Three Tars are averaging double figures on the season. Merton leads the way at 15 points a night- Sharif Almulla is scoring 13 a game- while Philpott has come on strong of late and is putting up 10.7 per contest. Merton is leading the team in rebounding at 4.9 per contest. The Tars were a 85-68 winner over ERAU in the first meeting in Daytona December 2nd.
Embry-Riddle fell to Palm Beach Atlantic the last time out. The loss was there fifth in six games. The Eagles (11-7) lost 72-66 at Rubin Arena. The Eagles shoot 36 percent (22 of 60) as a team- and- went five of 18 (28 percent) from the 3-point line in the defeat to PBA.
Three ERAU players scored in double figures in that game. Ognjen Milijkovic paced the Eagles with 16- Styler Hogan added a career high 13- and- Dalton Barnes rounded out the double digit scorers with 10.
Like Rollins the Eagles are having a big year on the offensive end where they are putting up 86 points a night- unlike the Tars the Eagles have not been good on the defensive end where they give up 81 a contest. ERAU is shooting 45 percent as a team on the season, and they are out rebounding their opponents by more than six boards a contest.
ERAU has six players averaging double figures paced by Milijkovic at 16.8 a night- He also leads the team in rebounding at 7.2 a contest- Barnes is the team's next leading scorer at 14.4 a game- and Reed Ridder is also putting up solid numbers at 14.1 per game.
