The Rollins Tars (11-5 4-3 SSC) will look to win consecutive games for the first time since starting the season 9-0 as they battle the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic (8-6) on Saturday. The Sailfish are a provisional member of the Sunshine State Conference. Tip time is set for 4 PM at Warden Arena. The Tars are coming into the contest fresh off a big road win over Florida Tech on Wednesday. The 84-69 win was the third win of the season for the Tars at the Clemente Center (also defeated Clark-Atlanta and Paine to begin the season in the SSC-SIAC Crossover.) The Tars saw Jeff Merton set a new career high with 28 points in the victory. James Ferrell and Mike Bedulskis also scored in double figures with 14 points each.
Rollins shot 57 percent from the floor and went 8-17 from the 3-point line. Each team gathered 30 rebounds in the contest. The Tars were eight points better than FIT both in the paint (40-32) and in points off turnovers (23-15.)
Going into the Saturday game the Tars are averaging more than 83 points per night. They have been solid on the defensive end as well, where they are allowing 73.6 a contest. The Tars continue to shoot the ball extremely well (just a tad under 50 percent from the field) and 39 percent from the 3-point line. They are also one of the best free throw shooting teams in the country (81 percent.)
Three Tar players come into the weekend averaging double figures. Merton, fresh off his career high Wednesday is averaging 15.9 a game- Sharif Almulla who has been quiet the last couple games is now at 14.1 a night- while Deion Clark is chipping in 10 points a contest.
PBA comes in off of a second straight come from behind win. Wednesday night they were a 78-69 winner over Tampa after a second half rally. Bakari Warthen stuffed the stat sheet with 25 points- five steals- three rebounds- and- five assists. Malik Barber scored in double digits for the fifth consecutive game.
The Sailfish come in averaging 80.7 points a game as a team. They have not been good on the other end allowing 81.7 points per night. They are shooting 45 percent from the floor and 33 percent from the 3-point line. PBA has not been good at the foul line either where they shoot 63 percent.
