Rollins Battles Saint Leo In Conference Finale.

The Rollins Tars and Saint Leo Lions will meet for the second time this season Wednesday night, when they battle at Warden Arena in Winter Park. The Lions escaped with a 77-75 win at the buzzer in the first meeting in January. You can catch all the action on the Geico Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com and on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park.
The last time out, the Tars were a 85-68 winner over Lynn in Boca Raton.  The Tars improved to 19-7 overall and 11-4 in the SSC. A win on Wednesday would guarantee Rollins no worse than the #3 seed in the upcoming Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
Rollins shot over 55 percent from the floor, which made up for a rare night when they only went 20-31 at the free throw line.  The Tars won the rebounding battle 39-37. Sharif Almulla broke out of his recent shooting slump to pace the Tars with 22 points on 10-13 shooting from the field.  Jeff Merton contributed 20 of his own for Rollins- while Sam Philpott chipped in 15 off the bench.
Rollins comes into the game averaging 83 points a night, which is good for fourth in the conference. On the defensive end, they sit third in the SSC giving up a little less than 75 points a contest.  As they have much of the season, the Tars lead the league in field goal percentage (49 percent) and from the free throw line (79 percent.)
Four Rollins players average double figures on the season, led by Merton at 15.5 points per game (10th in the conference-) Philpott is putting up 12.5 points a game- Almulla scores 11.9 a contest- while Deion Clark is putting up 10.2 a night.
Saint Leo comes in with a record of 17-9 overall and 9-5 in the SSC.  The Lions are coming off a 96-84 victory over Florida Tech last time out.  Marcus Dewberry stuffed the stat sheet in the victory. He recorded a triple-double (27 points- 10 rebounds and 10 assists-) not to mention five steals.  His effort on Saturday won him his fourth SSC Player of the week honors of the season, as well as the DII Men's basketball player of the week.
The Lions come into the game second in the league in both offense and defense from the 3-point line. The Lions shoot 38 percent from three- while opponents shoot just 33.8 percent from the 3-point line.
