Tars Roll Past Lynn.

In a game that was hotly contested for much of the way, the Rollins Tars took control in the second half and rolled to a 85-68 win over the Lynn Fighting Knights. With the victory the Tars secure the season sweep and improve to 19-7 overall and 11-4 in the SSC. They remain a half game behind front running Eckerd, who edged Nova Saturday. With the loss Lynn falls to 11-13 overall and 5-10 in the SSC.  The Tars were picked ninth in the preseason in the conference, while Lynn was picked second.
The Tars were paced by Sharif Almulla who busted out of his recent shooting slump in a big way Saturday. The Timber Creek product went 10-13 from the field en route to his 22 points- Jeff Merton continued his strong season with 20 points of his own- while Sam Philpott netted 15.
Rollins shot 56 percent in the game (29-52.) They also shot the ball at a 50 percent clip from the 3-point line (7-14-) for one of the few teams this season the best free throw shooting team in the conference did not shoot free throws well (20-31) for 65 percent.  Rollins won the rebounding battle 39-37.  They had 18 assists and 12 turnovers.
Lynn was led by 14 points each from Ben Berry and Fred Landers.  Allan Baez also scored 12- while Russell Wilson tallied a double-double (12 points and 11 assists.)
The Fighting Knights shot 39 percent as a team (27-69-) from the 3-point line they shot 35 percent (7-20.)  Lynn had a brutal night from the free throw line where they shot 41 percent (7-17.)  They had 19 assists and 10 turnovers.
Rollins led early, but the Fighting Knights would lead for much of the opening half. The Tars would open a seven point lead (40-33) late in the first half before Lynn would go on a 6-0 spurt to cut it to one (40-39) going into the locker room.
Lynn would take the lead at the 16:34 mark but it would be short lived. The Tars would regain the lead and took control for the rest of the way.
Rollins will be back on action Wednesday when they take on Saint Leo in the final conference game of the season for the Tars.  The Lions defeated Rollins in the last meeting between the two schools.  You can catch all the action from Warden Arena on the Geico Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com and on 91.5 FM WPRK.
