How Sweep It Is! Tars Hold Off Mocs Furious Second Half Rally Wednesday.

You knew when the Rollins Tars had a 22 point lead early in the second half at Jenkins FieldHouse that they would get the Mocs of Florida Southern's best shot. The Tars did and after the 22-point lead became two with five minutes to go they would secure a 94-88 win and a season sweep of the Mocs.  With the win Rollins improved to 12-8 overall and 6-5 in the SSC. With the loss Southern fell to 7-12 and 5-5 in the SSC.
The Tars had four players score in double figures in the win. Connor McKim scored a career high 27 points- Sam Philpott added 25- Jeff Merton scored 16- and- Joey Galvis added 10.  The Tars shot 58 percent as a team for the game- they shot 48 percent (10-21) from the 3-point line.  The Tars were a solid 79 percent (26-33) at the free throw line.  They had 14 assists and 17 turnovers in the victory.
The Mocs were led by a 30 point effort from Michael Volovic- LaBrien Shiflet added 17- and- Brett Hanson had 11 in the losing effort.  The Mocs shot 44 percent as a team and went 3-35 (37 percent) from the 3-point line.  At the free throw line they shot 69 percent (11-16.)  The Mocs edged the Tars in the rebounding battle 35-34- they had 13 assists and 13 turnovers.
The Tars came out hot in the early going. They would knock down five straight shots to open the game and took a seven point lead (14-7) after a Merton 3-pointer four minutes in.  The Tars would maintain that lead and would stretch it to 13 halfway thru the opening half after a pair of McKim 3-pointer's.  An 8-2 Mocs run would cut the lead to seven (30-23) The Tars would get another McKim 3-pointer and then Galvis would add one late in the half to give the Tars a 45-28 halftime lead.
The Tars would lead by 22 (57-35) four minutes into the second half before Volovic and the Mocs would catch fire.  With seven minutes to go the Tars lead would shrink to 10 (66-56.) Jakobbi Bonner would stretch the lead to 12 but then the Mocs would go on a 10-o run to cut the lead to two (68-66.)  Galvis and McKim would score on back to back trips, before Volovic would cut it to two again after one of his seven 3-pointer's in the contest with 2:46 to go.  Philpott would take over scoring the next six points and McKim would hit crucial free throws down the stretch to secure the Tars fourth straight win.
