The Rollins College Tars have been a much better team at home than on the road this season. Saturday they will got a shot to get a split with Florida Tech after losing 90-76 at the Clemente Center on November 30th. Rollins (10-8 4-5 SSC) has won two straight, the most recent being a hard-fought 73-71 win over Lynn on Wednesday. Sam Philpott scored 21 points to lead the Tars in the victory- while Jeff Merton also scored 10- Jakobi Bonner, Connor McKim and Jack Fleming scored eight points each. Lynn was led by 27 points from Terrell Rogers- while Marquan Botley added 14 (just two in the last 33 minutes of the game.)
The Tars have only lost at home twice this season, while Florida Tech is just 2-3 on the road for the campaign. Rollins averages 79.2 points a game as a team- while they give up 79.3 a night. They have shot the ball well from the 3-point line (41 percent) on the year. Rebounds have been an issue all season as the Tars have been out rebounded by more than six boards a contest. The Tars do lead the SSC in steals though at 9.2 per game.
Individually Rollins is paced by Sam Philpott at 14.8 points a game- Jeff Merton scores 14.2- and Joey Galvis averages 10 per night. Merton is just nine points behind Jeremey Sharpe for 35th all time in points scored for the Tars- while Galvis is leading the SSC and is 12th nationally in steals at more than two a game.
Florida Tech is coming off a 90-79 overtime loss to Saint Leo last time out. The Panthers were outscored 14-3 in the extra session. They are led by Jordan Majors who puts up 21.9 points a game, which is good for second in the SSC. Sam Daniel is third in the SSC at 21.2 points a game and leads the Panthers averaging eight rebounds a contest. Patrick Anderson puts up 14.7 a game and is 14th nationally averaging 6.2 assists a night. FIT scores 88.8 points a game- while they allow 86.1 a night. Daniels torched the Tars for 30 points and 16 rebounds in the first meeting in Melbourne.
