The Rollins Tars snapped a four game losing streak Wednesday at the DeHoernle Sport and Cultural Center when they defeated Lynn 80-69 sparked by the back court of Connor McKim- and- Kyle Marion. With the win Rollins improves to 9-7 and 3-5 in the SSC. Lynn falls to 7-7 and 3-5 in the SSC.
McKim poured in a game high 25 points to pace Rollins- while Marion added a career high 20. The Tars also got 11 points from Jakobi Bonner- and- 10 to go along with nine rebounds from Brooks Cluxton. Rollins shot 51 percent as a team- 45 percent (9-20) from the 3-point line- and- 85 percent (17-20) at the free throw line. They had 13 assists- and- 10 turnovers as a team. The Tars edged the Fighting Knights on the boards 28-27.
Lynn was led by 23 points from Brandon Bornelus- Christian Peevy netted 18-and- Branden Ellis tallied 11. The Fighting Knights shot 45 percent as a team- 32 percent (10-31) from the 3-point line- and- 88 percent (7-8) at the free throw line. They had 10 assists- and- 14 turnovers as a team.
Both teams got off to slow starts offensively as the Tars led 8-3 six minutes in. Rollins would hold the lead until Lynn took a 26-25 advantage at the 2:39 mark of the half. McKim knocked down a 3-ball for the Tars to give them the lead back. Right before halftime the Tars would get a 3-pointer from Hutton Yenor and take a 31-29 lead into the locker room.
Lynn would score the first basket of the second half to tie the score but Rollins would counter with a 10-0 run propelled by five points from Marion to take a 41-31 lead. It would be a 10 point lead (54-44) at the 10 minute mark. Rollins would put away the game with a 9-0 run that stretched the lead to 17 (67-50-) and- cruise to victory from there.
