The Rollins Tars led by eight with 1:05 to go but could not hang on as they ultimately fell 69-68 to Barry on Saturday afternoon at the Sport and Health Center. With the loss the Tars drop to 8-5 and 2-3 in the SSC. Barry takes over first place in the conference as they are now 11-2 and 5-1 in the SSC.
Rollins was paced by Jakobi Bonner with 16 points in the contest. They got 14 points each from Hutton Yenor- and- Connor McKim. Trevor Recio had a team high 12 rebounds.
Barry who has now reeled off eight straight wins was paced by Jake Kakhar with 20 points- Tylan Birts added 18- and- Johannes Dolven scored 11.
Barry jumped out to a 20-12 lead to start this one. Then the Tars would come back to cut the lead to three (27-24) before a 7-0 Barry run stretched the Buccaneers lead to 12 (36-24.) The Tars would close the half on a 12-2 run to go into the locker room down 38-36.
On the first possession of the second half Bonner would tie the game at 38. With 11:45 to go Barry would have an eight point lead. After a McKim 3-pointer- and- a pair of 3-pointer's by Yenor the Tars would regain the lead 53-52 with 8:18 to go. With 1:28 to go Rollins had a 68-60 lead after Bonner split a pair of free throws. After a defensive stop by the Tars Bonner would miss the front end of a one- and- one. After a Rollins turnover against the Barry full court pressure the Bucs would get to within six (68-62) after a free throw. After another Rollins turnover two more Barry free throws made it 68-64. After a trap by the Buccaneers forced another steal- a 3-pointer by Kakhar made it 68-67 with 26 ticks remaining. After another Rollins turnover Barry could not convert on the offensive end and a Kakhar put back proved to be the game winner. McKim had two shots to win it but both shots were to strong and the Tars lost for the first time this season away from Winter Park.
