Tripped Up By The Tritons.

The Rollins College Tars climbed out of an early 12-0 hole to force overtime, but could not get the job done as they fell to Eckerd 74-70 inside Warden Arena Saturday.
The Tars fell to 9-4 on the season and 2-1 in the SSC. Myk Brown poured in 20 points to lead Rollins. Dave Diakite added 14, while Ian Scott and Scott Schuette tallied nine a piece. The Tars missed the first five shots they attempted and dug a 12-0 hole in the game's first five minutes. It would be 22-7 Eckerd halfway through the opening stanza. Rollins would battle back and tie the game at 28 at halftime. The game would be evenly played for the opening nine minutes of half number two until a 6-0 Eckerd run would give them a six point lead (48-42). Rollins would answer with a 8-0 run of their own as a Jeff Dirkin three point play made it 50-48 Tars. The two teams would trade baskets and be tied at 57 with two minutes to go in regulation. After each team hit a three, Diakite would give the Tars a 62-60 lead with 47 seconds left. Eckerd would take a one point lead on a three point play with nine seconds left. Ian Scott would make one of two free throws with four seconds left to send the game into overtime.  The Tritons would control the OT. They scored the first five points and never trailed in the extra session to improve to 8-4 and 2-2 in the SSC.
Eckerd had four players score double figures Saturday. Darrien Mack led the way with a double-double (15 points and 10 rebounds). Alex Bodney(14) and Lance Kearse (12) also scored in double figures. Woody Taylor chipped in 10 for Eckerd.
The Tritons shot 45 percent as opposed to 40 percent for the Tars. 3-point shooting was fairly even as Rollins went 9-25 (36 percent) to 8-21 ( 38 percent) for EC. The Tritons shot 80 percent (12-15) at the foul line while the Tars were 19-27 (70 percent). Eckerd dominated the boards, out rebounding the Tars 41-29. Eckerd had 18 turnovers to 14 miscues for Rollins.
The Tars will be back in action Wendesday when they face the Fighting Knights of Lynn in Boca Raton.
