The Rollins College Tars (12-2 4-0 SSC) remained perfect in the conference with a 74-63 win over Nova Southeastern at Warden Arena Wednesday. The win, coupled with Tampa knocking off Saint Leo later in the evening gives the Tars sole possession of the top spot in the SSC.
Dave Diakite picked up right where he left off Saturday. Diakite scored 25 points for the second straight game to pace the Tars and had a season high 13 rebounds. Brett Chance added 13 points, Mitch Woods netted 11 and Chris Uhle chipped in 10 for the Tars in the win. The Tars shot 49 percent in the game. They were a red hot 70 percent (12-17 in the second half.) The Tars controlled the glass, out rebounding NSU 32-23. The Tars shot 48 percent (12-25) from the 3-point line. They shot at a 75 percent clip (18-24) at the foul line. The Tars had 16 assists and turned the ball over 14 times.
NSU dropped to 8-5 and 1-3 in the SSC. Maurice Fuller who came into the game averaging just over five points a game paced the Sharks with 19. Iran Hollis contributed 12 and grabbed five rebounds. NSU shot 43 percent (22-51) for the game and hit 40 percent (12-30 from the 3-point line.) The Sharks only went to the foul line nine times, making seven (78 percent.) They had 13 assists and turned the ball over 13 times.
The Sharks were red hot to start the game and seven minutes in would lead 25-14. The Sharks would use a 15-1 run to take a 28-18 lead but the Tars would counter. Rollins would go on a 17-0 run of their own and after a late Sean Mullan 3-pointer would lead 35-31 at the half.
The intermission would not slow down the Tars. The Tars would start off the second half hot and lead 45-36 after a Kyle McClanahan 3-pointer witth 15 minutes to go.
NSU would make another run and get as close as four (58-54) with 7:39 to play. Adam Allen would nail a 3-pointer to stretch the lead back out to seven and the Tars would cruise the rest of the way.
