Ninth Ranked Mocs Control Tempo, Tars Wednesday.

A full house assembled at Warden Arena Wednesday night to see a pair of top 20 teams and co leaders of the Sunshine State Conference go at it. Unfortunately, for the second straight game the Rollins Tars could not get enough stops on the defensive end and would ultimately fall 97-74 to the Mocs.
The Tars who came into the game allowing just 63.4 points a game as a team gave up a season high 97 in Winter Park Wednesday. Three Tars scored in double figures in the loss, as 19th ranked Rollins fell to 14-4 overall and 6-2 in the SSC. Kyle McClanahan paced the Tars with 18 points on 9 of 11 shooting in the game, Adam Allen added 13 (3 of 6 from the 3-point line) and Dave Diakite chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds. The Tars shot 55 percent (30-55) from the floor and hit 9 of 20 (45 percent) from three. The Tars got to the foul line just nine times, making five.  The Tars had just 10 assists as a team.
The ninth ranked Mocs (15-2 7-1 SSC) have now win six in a row and 13 of 14.  They shot 53 percent as a team, including 40 percent (14-35) from the 3-point line. The Mocs made good on 73 percent (11-15) from the foul line.  The Mocs won the rebounding battle 32-28 and recorded 23 assists as a team. The Mocs put four players in double figures on the night. Dominic Lane (22) and Seth Evans (17) paced the Mocs, while Brett Bailey (15) and Lamar McKnight (14) also scored in double figures.
Both teams got off to a slow start and the Tars would lead 10-9 in the early going. The Mocs then went on a 22-4 spurt to take a 32-13 lead with 8:50 left in the half. The lead would stretch out to 20, but the Tars would answer. A Kyle McClanahan lay up would cap a 17-8 Tars run to close out the half and the Mocs lead would be 46-35 at the intermission.
Rollins would get to within six (48-42) before the Mocs would open it up again and lead by 18 (70-52) midway thru the second half. The Tars would then go on a 7-0 run capped by a Mitch Woods three and it would be 70-59 with 8:11 to go. That is as close as the Tars would get.
The Tars will look to get back on track Saturday when they head to the McArthur Center to take on Eckerd. Tip time is set for 4 PM. The Tars were a 73-45 winner over the Tritons in Winter Park to start league play. As always you can catch all the action on WPRK Winter Park and RollinsSports.com
