The Rollins College Tars (9-2 2-0 SSC) seek to make history when they travel to Florida Tech to take on the Panthers at the Clemente Center in Melbourne Wednesday. Coach Tom Klusman sitting at 599 career wins will look to become the fifth active coach in DII to win 600 games.
The Tars are coming off a big road win, when they knocked off previously unbeaten Tampa 72-66 on Saturday. Kyle McClanahan comes into Wednesday leading the team in scoring at 15.3 points per game. McClanahan is second in the SSC in field goal percentage (60.2 percent) and fourth in assists (5.0 per game). McClanahan is coming off a career high 26 points in Saturday's win. Two other players score in double figures. Dave Diakite is scoring 13.5 points per game and Brett Chance is scoring 10.2 points a game. The Tars are scoring 74.5 points per game, while they allow 62.5 a contest. A win would assure the Tars to stay atop the SSC as St.Leo will take on Florida Southern Wednesday night.
Rollins has dropped three straight games to Florida Tech. The Tars received 15 votes in the latest NABC DII Coaches Poll this week.
Florida Tech (6-4 0-1 SSC) has lost three of five after a 4-1 start. The Panthers are coming off the first regular season title in school history a season ago. FIT's lone conference game was a 86-80 overtime loss to Barry. The top two scorers in the SSC are from Florida Tech. Chris Carter pours in a game high 21 points a game, while Jermaine Jackson puts up 19.9 a contest. Julius Reed rounds out the double figure scorers at 15 points per game and leads the nation at 4.4 steals a night.
The Panthers high flying offense is averaging 85.2 points a game. Defensively, the Panthers are near the bottom of the league allowing 71.6 points a contest. Last time out, FIT rolled 94-61 over Palm Beach Atlantic. Three players scored in double figures led by the 32 points and 10 rebounds from Jermaine Jackson. Chris Carter had 21 points and nine rebounds, while Julius Reed had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
