The Rollins Tars (9-2 2-0 SSC) came into the Bob Martinez Center Saturday and knocked the Spartans off 72-66 to give coach Tom Klusman win number 599 in his coaching career.
Kyle McClanahan had a career game for the Tars. McClanahan put up a career high 26 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists in 38 minutes of action. The Winter Park native was 8 of 11 from the field and 10 of 12 at the foul line on the day. Dave Diakite continued his solid play of late, he scored 14 points and had three steals. The Tars shot 56 percent for the game, this included a blistering 70 percent (14-20) in the second half. The Tars could not find the stroke from long range on Saturday, going just 4-15 (27 percent). The Tars made 27 trips to the foul line, making 18 (67 percent). The Tars edged Tampa on the boards 28-27. They had 17 assists along with 13 turnovers.
Tampa fell to 12-1 on the year and 0-1 in conference play with the loss. The Spartans had two players in double figures on the day. Anthony Griffis led the way with 18 points. Da'Marko Foster netted 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss. Tampa shot 47 percent (24-51) for the game and went just three of seven at the foul line. The Spartans were 15 of 36 from the 3 point line, had 20 assists and turned the ball over 18 times.
