Tars Rip Tarzans Tuesday.

The Rollins Tars evened their season record at 4-4 with a 102-45 pasting of Puerto Rico Mayaguez at Warden Arena Tuesday afternoon.  The Tars hardly looked like the same team that started out the season at 1-4 and has had a hard time scoring all season long.
The win was the third straight for the Tars and completed a stretch of four games in five days with a record of 3-1. The lone loss being a hard-fought 70-59 loss to South Carolina Aiken in the Saint Leo Classic. The Tars were led by five players in double figures Tuesday. Alex Blessig nailed five 3-pointer's en route to a career high 20 points. Jeff Dirkin continued a solid stretch of late. Dirkin scored 13 points- grabbed six rebounds- and added to his team leading total with a pair of steals. Scott Schuette hit 4 of 5 3-pointer's to tally 12 points. The 12 points was Schuette's season high.   Lukas Winegarner and Mitch Woods added 10 points each. The Tars got 41 points off the bench and everyone played and scored for the home team in this one. Rollins shot the ball extremely well from the field. The Tars shot at a 54 percent clip (37-68) from the field and had the best shooting night of the season from the 3-point line. They hit 51 percent (18-35) from the 3-point line.
Mayaguez fell to 0-8 on the season. The Tarzans did not have a player score in double figures. Gabriel Garcia and Patrick Morales led the Tarzans with seven points each.
The game was close for the first five minutes. Then the Tars opened up a 10 point lead (23-13) at the 11 minute mark of the opening half. A Dirkin slam with 7:15 to go would give Rollins a 16 point lead (31-15). They would out score the Tarzans 15-3 the rest of the opening half and would have a commanding 46-18 lead at the intermission.
The Tars would push the advantage to 30 on a Dirkin tip in on the first possession of the opening half. The Tars would stretch the lead to 43 with 10 minutes to play. The lead would grow to 50 (84-34) at the 7:57 mark. Joey Galvis would get into the act and give the Tars a 57 point lead in the game's final minute and that would be the final margin. The 57 point win was the Tars largest margin of victory since 1983.
The Tars held the Tarzans to 28 percent shooting from the field and just 20 percent (5-25) from the 3-point line. The Tarzans were just 40 percent (4-10) at the free throw line. The Tarzans had just nine assists and 24 turnovers.
The Tars shot 77 percent at the foul line (10-13.) They out rebounded the Tarzans 44-39.  The Tars had 26 assists and 15 turnovers. Rollins had 14 steals on the day. Woods led the way with three.
Rollins will take a well deserved week off before they open conference play with a 7 PM tilt against Saint Leo at Warden Arena on December 4th. As always you can catch all the action on 91.5 FM WPRK and round the world at RollinsSports.com
