The Rollins Tars (2-4) welcome the Vaqueros of Puerto Rico Bayamon to Warden Arena on Monday evening. It will be the Tars third game in a four day stretch that will see them play four games in five days.
The Tars split a pair of games in the Saint Leo Classic over the weekend. The Tars fell to 18th ranked South Carolina Aiken before knocking off Virginia Union. The Vaqueros are coming off a loss to Flagler on Friday night.
The Tars are off to a 2-4 start, but look to win consecutive games for the first time on the young campaign. The Tars split a pair of games at Saint Leo over the weekend. Friday night they fell 70-59 to South Carolina Aiken before they ran past Virginia Union 77-59 Saturday.
The Tars had a seven point lead at halftime versus Aiken before a tough second half. They managed only six field goals made in a second half where they were outscored 40-22. Mitch Woods had 19 points in Friday night's contest to lead Rollins.
On Saturday the Tars come up with a very solid performance in a 77-59 win over Virginia Union. They held VU to just one offensive rebound in the opening half and led "wire to wire". The Tars in a complete reversal from Friday night put up 50 points in the second half Saturday. Woods and Chris Uhle each had 14 for the Tars. The 14 for Uhle was a new career-high. Jeff Dirkin had a career high with 14 rebounds in the win.
The Tars have a pair of players averaging double figures on the young season. Woods leads the way at 12.8 points a game. The senior has nailed 12 of 28 from the 3-point line on the season. Adam Allen is the team's other double digit scorer at 11 per contest. Uhle has also been solid, putting up 9.5 points-grabbing 5.3 rebounds- and dishing out 2.7 assists- a game. Dirkin leads the team in blocks (11) and steals (10.)
The Vaqueros come in with a record of 3-5 on the season. The most recent game being a 90-67 loss to Flagler. Carlos Ramos led the way with 27 points in that one. Hamilton Rullan added 11- and Johnathan Ramos chipped in nine points and five assists.
Bayamon did have a big upset win earlier in the season when they knocked off USC-Aiken 60-55. Ramos had 17 in that one. Jorge Santos put up 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds in that one. Bayamon held the Pacers to 30 percent shooting and held them 20 points under there scoring average for the season.
