Offense Not Good Enough For Tars in Loss To Eckerd.

The Rollins Tars fell behind 10-1 seven minutes into Saturday's contest at Warden Arena and would have to battle uphill all day before falling 66-59 to the Eckerd College Tritons.   The loss drops the Tars record to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the Sunshine State Conference.  Eckerd improved to 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the SSC.
  Rollins had three players score in double figures in the loss.  Tars leading scorer Mitch Woods had 17 points, six rebounds and six assists to lead the way.  Scott Schuette added 12 points off the bench behind four threes.  Lukas Winegarner netted 11 points to follow up his first career double-double last time out.
  The Tars had a hard time finding the bucket all day. They shot just 36 percent (19-53) from the field.  The Tars had a even harder time from the 3-point line where they shot 25 percent (8-32.) At the foul line they shot 65 percent (13-20.) The Tars won the rebounding battle 36-33.  They had 13 assists and 14 turnovers as a team.
  The Tritons were led by Jerrick Stevenson who netted 20 for the second straight game.  Alex Bodney would add 13, and E.J Moody netted 12.  The Tritons shot 46 percent (18-39) from the field in the game.  They shot 47 percent (8-17) from the 3-point line.  The Tritons let the Tars hang around by shooting just 60 percent (22-37) at the free throw line.  The Tritons had 12 assists and 18 turnovers.
  The game started with the Tars going 0 of 8 from the field and they trailed 10-1 seven minutes in.  Schuette would hit a pair of 3-pointers and the Tars were within three (10-7) at the 12:20 mark of the opening half.  The Tritons would stretch the lead back out to 11 (21-10) with 3:29 in the opening half. The Tars would then get to within four (24-20) with 23 seconds in the half.  Stevenson would nail a fade away 3-pointer in the left corner right before the break that would give the Tritons a seven point lead (27-20.)
  The second half would start much like the first did as  Eckerd would score the first 10 points and would have there largest lead of the game at 17 (37-20) with 17:42 to go.  The Tars would then go on a 16-3 run and would once again be within four (40-36) halfway thru the second half.
  The Tritons would stretch the lead back out to 13 (56-43) with 3:55 remaining.  The Tars would not go quietly and would get to within four (61-57) with 1:16 left. The Tars would have a 3-pointer by Winegarner that would not fall that would have cut the lead to one in the final minute. The Tritons got a pair of free throws by Bodney to secure the win.
