Tars Fall at Tampa Saturday.

The Rollins Tars had not played in 16 days and looked like it for most of the day Saturday as they fell 76-63 at the Bob Martinez Sports Center. Tampa was the first team to break the 70 point plateau against Tom Klusman's zone this season.
Rollins (6-5 1-1 SSC) saw it's five game win streak come to an end Saturday with the loss. Four Rollins players scored in double figures in the loss. Alex Blessig paced the Tars with 14 points-seven assists- and- six rebounds. Mitch Woods tallied 12 points on 4 of 11 shooting in the game. Jeff Dirkin added 11, and Scott Schuette had 10 off the bench.  The Tars shot 44 percent from the field on the day. They struggled from the 3-point line where they were 6 of 21 (29 percent.) The Tars had a rough game at the foul line. They shot 45 percent (9-20) at the stripe. They had 14 assists and 13 turnovers.
Tampa (8-3 1-1 SSC) had a all around solid effort. The Spartans only had a pair of players in double figures. Eric Moraes had a double-double (21 points and 10 rebounds.) Da'Marcko Foster playing for the first time in over a month after a ankle injury added 12 points. Tyler Zacur hit three 3-pointer's for 9 points. He came in having played just 31 minutes all season in 10 games. Tampa shot 61 percent from the field on the game. They were a solid 44 percent (7-16) from the 3-point line. The Spartans who came into the game losing the rebounding battle on the season drubbed the Tars 35-23 on the boards. The Spartans had 19 assists and 19 turnovers.
It was Tampa who was the fresher of the two teams after the long lay off and they led 10-2 after the game's first three and a half minutes. The Tars would cut the lead to three (13-10) on a Blessig jumper after a Dirkin steal. Tampa would go on a 10-1 run and lead 25-13 with 5:25 in the opening half. The Spartans would lead by as many as 16 and the lead would be 35-23 Tampa at the half.
The Tars cut it to eight in the early stages of the second half but that is as close as they would get. Tampa would put the game away with a 11-0 run that would make it 54-33 at the 10:31 mark. The Tars would make one last push, as a Schuette 3-pointer would cut the Tampa lead to 11 (64-53) at the 3:37 mark but that would not be barely enough.
The Tars will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Melbourne to take on Florida Tech at the Clemente Center.  You can catch all the actions on the Tars sports network at Rollins Sports.com and on 91.5 FM WPRK Winter Park.
