Balanced Attack Lifts Tars Past Bayamon.

The Rollins Tars (3-3) snapped a brief three game losing skid with a solid defensive effort in a 83-57 win over Puerto Rico Bayamon (0-1) at Warden Arena Monday night.  After holding a one point lead (31-30) at halftime the Tars outscored Los Vaqueros 52-27 in the second stanza.
  All 11 Rollins players who saw the floor scored Monday.  Jeff Merton led four Tars in double figures with 13 points- Scott Schuette and Mike Bedulskis added 12 each- while Jeff Dirkin scored 11.  The Tars shot 54 percent (29-54) for the game.  This included a sizzling 69 percent (20-29) in the second half.  They shot 44 percent (10-23) from the 3-point line, including 64 percent (7-11) after halftime.  The Tars shot 68 percent (15-22) at the foul line.  The Tars won the rebounding battle 32-29.  They had 19 assists and 14 turnovers.  Bayamon scored 18 points off those turnovers.
  Bayamon was led by Victor Carattini who netted 20 points- while Evander Ortiz netted 10.  No other Bayamon player scored more than 5.  Bayamon shot 43 percent for the game.  They were 38 percent (9-24) from the 3-point line.  Bayamon was just 50 percent (4-8) at the free throw line.  They had 13 assists and 22 turnovers.  Rollins turned those 22 turnovers into 30 points.
  Bayamon jumped out to a 9-5 lead early after a Ortiz 3-pointer at the 15:08 mark.  The Tars would then score the next 11 points. A Sam Phillpott 3-pointer would make it 16-9 Rollins at the 11:20 mark of the opening half.  Bayamon would then score the next eight points and another Ortiz 3-pointer would give them the lead back.  The rest of the half would be played evenly until Joey Galvis would split a pair of free throws for the Tars and give them a one point halftime lead.
  The Tars would come out in the second half a new team.  Bayamon would score the first four points to take a three point lead (34-31) and then the Tars would turn up the defensive heat.  Rollins would score the next 11 points and after a Alex Blessig steal and lay up would take a eight point lead (42-34.)  A quick five points by Bayamon would cut the lead to three (42-39) with 14:50 to go.  Rollins would go on a 25-3 run and put the game away over the next six plus minutes.  Bayamon would get no closer than 18 the rest of the way.
