The Rollins Tars looked new and improved Wednesday night in the team's lone exhibition game. Rollins was a 106-61 winner over the Brunel (London) University Ducks at Warden Arena.
The Tars were led by 17 points from redshirt freshman Sam Phillipott. He was seven of 11 from the field to go along with a three- of-three night at the foul line. Phillipott was one of five Tars in double figures on the evening. Sharif Almulla also had a great night shooting the ball, going seven of eight from the field. The Timber Creek product also hit both of his 3-point attempts. A pair of seniors also notched double digits. Chris Uhle netted 13 points, including three of six from the 3-point line. Scott Schuette posted 12 points behind a three of five night from the 3-point line. Zach Ullian added 11 points to round out the Tars double digit scorers.
The Tars shot 57 percent (41-72) from the field on the night. They also shot it well from the 3-point line, going 11-28 (39 percent.) At the foul line the Tars shot 72 percent (13-18.) This included going nine of 10 in the second half. The Tars dominated the glass 42-28. They had 28 assists and just nine turnovers.
The Ducks placed three players in double figures. Joel Henry led the way with 22 points (5-13 from the 3-point line.) Benji Lawmann added 17- and- Dario Wisdom tallied 11 in the loss. The Ducks shot 42 percent (23-55) from the field. They shot 32 percent (8-25) from the 3-point line. The Ducks went just seven of 15 (46 percent) at the foul line. The Ducks had 16 assists and turned the ball over 21 times. Those 21 turnovers turned into 41 points for the Tars.
The Tars cruised from start to finish. The bench outscored the Ducks 65-4.
