The 13th ranked Rollins College Tars fell for a second consecutive day in the SSC/SIAC Crossover. Today the Tars were a 85-82 loser to the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse. Morehouse improved to 2-0, while the Tars dropped to 0-2.
The Tars were led by 23 points each from Sam Philpott and Connor McKim. McKim added seven rebounds and six assists as well. Jack Fleming netted 13 off the Rollins bench- and- Eric Castaneda chipped in 12.
Rollins shot 45 percent as a team. They were just 7-26 (27 percent) from the 3-point line. They shot at a 82 percent clip (23-28) from the free throw line. They had 16 assists and 16 turnovers.
Morehouse was led by 18 points from Tyrius Walker- Jordan Wallace hit four 3-pointer's on the way to his 15 points- Martravious Little added 12- while James Walker scored 10.
The Maroon Tigers shot 49 percent as a team- they shot 42 percent (11-26) from the 3-point line. They were just 56 percent (10-18) at the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 40-31. They had 17 assists and 16 turnovers.
Rollins was playing without the services of Jeff Merton and battled all day. They were down 18-17 midway thru the first half. The Tars would take a brief lead (33-32) at the 3:52 mark of the opening half. The Maroon Tigers would lead at the half 41-39.
The Maroon Tigers would start the second half on a run and lead by nine (51-42) early. A Rollins spurt would cut the lead to one (57-56) after a Daniel Loh dunk at the 11 minute mark. The Maroon Tigers would take control of the game in the next several minutes and would build a 10 point lead (83-73) with 45 seconds to go. The Tars would not go quietly but ultimately fell 85-82.
The Tars will be back in action Wednesday when they open conference play against the Florida Tech Panthers. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.
