The Rollins Tars was a 92-83 winner over Embry-Riddle at Warden Arena Wednesday. With the victory the Tars improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the SSC. With the loss Embry-Riddle dropped to 4-4 overall and 0-3 in the SSC.
The Tars were led by a 20-point evening from Eric Castaneda- while Deion Clark stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points- a career high 16 rebounds- and- five assists. Jeff Merton scored 17- while- Sam Philpott added 15.
Rollins shot 51 percent from the floor and 50 percent (11-22) from the 3-point line. At the free throw line they shot at a 79 percent clip (19-24.) The Tars had 19 assists and just seven turnovers as a team.
The Eagles were led by Nashad Mackey with 17 points- Rudy Bibb-Boyd had 15- Elijah Jenkins (14-) and- Joshua Hawkins added 13. Embry-Riddle shot 39 percent from the floor- and- 29 percent (10-34) from the 3-point line. They shot 75 percent (21-28) at the free throw line. The Eagles won the rebounding battle 41-35. They had 15 assists and eight turnovers as a team.
Rollins would take a six point lead (19-13) after a Daniel Lot basket in the first several minutes of the opening half. That lead would be extended to 11 (34-23) later in the half, as Philpott would tip in a Merton miss at the 6:34 mark of the opening half. The Eagles would come back late in the half though and Rollins would hold a three-point advantage (42-39) after the first 20 minutes.
The Tars would get off to a good start in the second stanza and opened up a 10 point lead (52-42) with 17 minutes to go. The Eagles closed to within seven but Rollins would get a Clark basket at the 10:49 mark that capped a run that gave them a 14-point lead (72-58.)
The Eagles would not go away. They would get to within five (81-76) at the 5:46 mark. Rollins would make their free throws and hold on for a fifth straight win.
