The Rollins College Tars (21-4 12-1 SSC) ran its current win streak to 12 games with a 87-80 win over Palm Beach Atlantic (10-11) at Warden Arena Wednesday. The Tars clinched a tie for the SSC regular season title when Eckerd beat Florida Southern.
The Tars who were without Myk Brown for a second straight game were led by the last two SSC Players Of the Week. Nick Wolf and Matt Robertson had 20 points each. All five starters scored in double figures for Rollins. Ian Scott (14), Alex Castillo 14 and Nikola Baran 12 scored in double numbers as well. The Tars shot 47 percent from the field on the day. The Tars were 4-12(33%) from three point land. Rollins shot 76% (29-38) from the foul line. The Tars had 17 assists and just 9 turnovers.
PBA dropped to 10-11 with a third straight loss. David Wood led all scorers with 24 points. Jonathan Lawrence netted 23 and Terrell Terry added 13. The Sailfish won the rebounding battle 33-25. PBA shot 47% from the field and 39% from three point land. The Sailfish were 9-13 (69%) at the free throw line.
The Tars jumped out to an early 12-2 lead after a Ian Scott layup with 13:03 in the half. PBA cut it to 21-14 on a Terry triple with 7:36 in the half. Rollins would run off the next eight points and lead 36-22 headed to halftime.
The Tars would start off the second half hot and have the game's biggest lead at 26 (53-27) on a Castillo lay up with 15:04 to go. PBA would make a furious rally and get as close as 6 (77-71) on a Wood trey with 1:04 to go. The Tars would make there free throws to seal it.
The Tars will be back in action Saturday. They will try and clinch the conference title outright at Jenkins Fieldhouse. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.
