The Rollins Tars will be tested right out of the gate to start the calendar year in 2019 when they welcome the fifth ranked Sharks of Nova Southeastern to Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center Wednesday. Rollins (8-4 2-2 SSC) rebounded from a tough trip to Vegas before the holiday break with a resounding win at Saint Leo on Saturday. The win was the sixth straight for the Tars at the Bowman Activities Center. Hutton Yenor paced the Tars with 17 points- Jakobi Bonner scored 16- and- Connor McKim 14 in the Tars second straight SSC win after a pair of losses to begin conference play. The hot shooting Tars drilled 10 3-pointer's on 16 attempts in the victory. Bonner is the leading scorer for Rollins as he has been for much of the season putting up 16.1 points per night. He is also averaging 4.6 rebounds per contest. McKim is also averaging double digits putting up 14 a game and leads the team in assists at nearly three per contest. Yenor rounds out the double digit scorers putting up 10.5 per night. The Tars are in the middle of the pack offensively as they score 79.3 points per game. On the defensive end they are fourth in the conference surrendering 72.3 per game.
NSU (10-0 4-0 SSC) comes in as one of just nine undefeated teams remaining in the country in Division II. The Sharks are leading the country in scoring at more than 111 points per game and have eclipsed the century mark in all but two games this season. The last time out the Sharks disposed of pre season SSC favorite Florida Southern in a 117-95 thrashing. A pair of Sharks had 30+ points in the contest as Connor Ziniach poured in a game high 39 points- while Mark Matthews netted 31. David Dennis posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists. Despite the high-flying offense that leads both the SSC and the nation the Sharks also are the worst defensive team in the conference surrendering 84.7 points per night. The Sharks force 24 turnovers a game on the season as they came at you full court for 40 minutes. Ziniach leads the season box score putting up 22.3 points a game- Matthews averages 20.5 points a night and a team leading 7.9 rebounds per contest. Dennis puts up 17.2 a game- and- Dwayne Gibson scores 10.7 a night.
