The Rollins Tars lost for the second straight game as they dropped a 71-60 decision to Barry at Warden Arena on Saturday. With the win Barry improves to 10-3 and 5-1 in the SSC. After the loss Rollins falls to 8-6 and 2-4 in the SSC.
Jakobi Bonner led a pair of Tars in double figures with 21 points- while Hutton Yenor scored 18. Rollins shot 38 percent as a team- 32 percent (7-22) from the 3-point line. The Tars also struggled at the free throw line where they shot 44 percent (7-16.) Rollins had 12 assists and 16 turnovers in the contest. Each team collected 39 rebounds.
Daniel Mortensen led three Barry players in double figures with 23 points- Tylan Birts had 16- and- Evan Walshe added 14. The Bucs shot 42 percent from the field- 31 percent (10-32) from the 3-point line- and- 64 percent (9-14) at the free throw line. The Bucs had 23 assists and 13 turnovers in the contest.
Both teams had trouble scoring from the out set. Rollins would score the game's first five points and lead 5-0 four minutes in before a Mortensen 3-pointer. Rollins would lead by eight (15-7) after a Yenor 3-pointer three minutes later. Barry would score the next 11 points and regain the lead. It would be 18-15 in favor of the Buccaneers at the halfway mark of the half. It would be a two point game (30-28) Barry at halftime. Mortensen had 12 and Birts 10 to lead Barry in the opening half. They shot 38 percent from the field- 28 percent (5-18) from the 3-point line- and- 50 percent (1-2) at the free throw line. Barry had 11 assists and seven turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Yenor was the only Rollins player in double figures in the opening half with 12. Bonner added seven- and- Castaneda had five in the opening half. The Tars shot 33 percent from the field- 42 percent (5-12) from the 3-point line- and- 75 percent (3-4) at the free throw line. The Tars had seven assists and seven turnovers in the opening half.
Barry stretched the lead to 12 early in the second half. The lead would balloon to 18 (62-44) with six minutes to go. Rollins would trim the lead to single digits (66-57) with 1:58 to go but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way.
