Hutton Yenor scored a career best 27 points- but it was not enough as the Rollins Tars fell 70-62 to Eckerd on Senior day. The loss was the ninth straight for the Tars- as they are now 9-17 overall- and- 3-15 in the SSC. With the win Eckerd improves to 18-8 and 11-7 in the SSC.
Yenor knocked down five 3-pointer's on his way to 27 points- while Jakobi Bonner added 16. Connor McKim joined the 1,000 point club at Rollins as well in the contest. Rollins shot 42 percent from the field- 32 percent (9-28) from the 3-point line- and- 54 percent (7-13) from the free throw line. They had 15 assists- and- 15 turnovers in the contest.
Drushaun McLaurn led Eckerd with 24 points- Myron Hagins added 12- and- Shaquille Harris scored 10 off the bench. The Tritons shot 50 percent from the field- 21 percent (3-14) from the 3-point line- and- 92 percent (11-12) from the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 35-27. Eckerd had 23 assists- and- 17 turnovers in the contest.
The Tars fell into a 14-3 hole early on. Rollins would pull to within two after a 9-0 run. It would be 34-24 in favor of the Tritons at the intermission. Yenor (10-) and- Bonner (nine points) combined for 19 of the Rollins 24 points in the opening half. For Eckerd McLaurn had 14 in the opening stanza- while Hagins added six.
Eckerd maintained a 12 point lead (52-40) with just under 12 minutes to go. Yenor would go on a personal 10-0 run- and- a 16-2 Rollins run would give the Tars a two point lead (56-54) with 8:03 to go. Eckerd would answer and take a six point lead of their own (64-58) with 3:18 to go. McKim would then knock down a triple to cut the lead to three that gave him 1,000 points in his Tars career. A McLaurn jumper was key- and- then the Tritons iced it at the free throw line.
