The Rollins College Tars (16-4 8-1 SSC) will look to continue their recent roll at Warden Arena on Wednesday. The Tars welcome 21st ranked Tampa to the Alfond Sports Center. The Tars lone loss in the SSC came back on January 2nd against the Spartans at the Bob Martinez Sports Center 86-80. Since then Rollins has run off 7 consecutive victories by an average margin of 11 points a game. The last was a 62-61 thriller at Nova Southeastern. Nick Wolf hit the game winning free throws with 8.5 seconds to go and the Tars survived a last second shot for the win.
The Tars have been "rock solid" of late. They come into Wednesday's contest with a 10-1 record at home, including 5-0 in conference play. The Tars have really picked it up at the defensive end during the streak. The Sharks of NSU came in averaging 84 points a contest but could only manage 61 on 35% shooting Saturday. The Tars score 77.8 points a night while allowing 69.3. Three players continue to pace the Tars attack. Nick Wolf has had five straight games of 20 points or more and has four straight double-doubles. The Senior from Cincinnati is averaging 20.5 points a night to lead the SSC. He also averages 10.3 boards (2nd in the SSC). Wolf leads the SSC in minutes played at 36.2 a contest. Matt Robertson has come on strong in the last couple games with 14.7 a night. Myk Brown rounds out the Tars double digit scorers at 14 per contest. Brown tweaked his leg in the game vs NSU and was limited to just 2 points in 15 minutes.
Tampa comes in ranked 21st in DII. The Spartans have lost 3 of 4 after starting the season with 16 wins in a row. The Spartans are coming off a 59-52 loss to Barry at the Bob Martinez Sports Center saturday night. The Spartans are currently tied for for third in the SSC with Eckerd. The Spartans have three players who average double figures. Rashaad Callaway leads Tampa at 17.6 points a night. He also is leading the SSC and 16th in DII with 5.6 assists a contest. Anthony Griffis (15.6 ppg) and Fred Woods (12.9) contribute double numbers for the Spartans. Tampa has the best defensive team in the SSC giving up just 67 points a night. They score 75.9 a contest. Tampa has been solid away from the Bob Martinez Sports Center (5-1). The key to this one could be Callum Townsend. Townsend is a sharp shooter who can be "hot and cold". He hit seven treys for a game high 21 points in the first meeting.
