Rollins No Match For Eckerd Saturday.

The Rollins Tars came into Saturday's game seeking a victory to pull into a tie with Eckerd for second place in the Sunshine State Conference. Instead, the Tars found out how far away they are from that point. The Tritons easily disposed of Rollins 93-71 at the McArthur Center. With the victory Eckerd improved to 16-6 and 9-4 in the SSC. With the loss the Tars fall to 13-10 and 7-6 in the SSC.
  For the second straight game Jakobi Bonner was the Tars leading scorer in a lopsided defeat. Bonner scored 14 on Saturday- and- was joined in double figures by Joey Galvis with 10- Jack Fleming added nine off the Tars bench. The Tars shot 37 percent as a team- 45 percent (9-20) from the 3-point line- and shot 67 percent (18-27) from the free throw line.  The Tars had twice as many turnovers (14) as assists (six.)  Rollins was out rebounded 37-28.
  Matt Beneduci poured in a game high 31 points for the Tritons- Kevin Walsh added 17- while- Drushaun McLaurn had 10.  The Tritons shot 57 percent from the floor- and- 46 percent (13-28) from the 3-point line.  They shot 74 percent (20-27) at the free throw line.  The Tritons had 19 assists and 19 turnovers.
  The Tars got a free throw by Sam Philpott to open the scoring but Eckerd would score the next six points. Rollins would go ahead by three (9-6) only to see the Tritons score the next 14 points to lead by 11 (20-9.)  The Tars would get to within six (26-20) at the 6:59 mark of the opening half. The Tars were down seven (34-27) with 2:29 to go in the half before the Tritons led by 17 late in the first before a Connor McKim 3-pointer made it 44-30 at the half.
  The second half was all Eckerd as they would lead by as many as 31 and cruise to the easy victory.
  Rollins will be back in action Wednesday when they take on Nova Southeastern at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM. You can catch all the action on the Geico Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK.
