The Rollins Tars take on the #17 Barry Buccaneers in a SSC matchup on Wednesday evening at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center. As usual you can catch the video and audio of the game on 91.5 FM WPRK and on RollinsSports.com
Rollins (15-10 9-6 SSC) comes into the game after winning the past two contests. The Tars now sit third in the SSC behind Barry and Eckerd with three games to go. The Tars were a 92-80 winner at Lynn the last time out. Connor McKim tied a career high with 27 points in the victory-adding eight assists and seven rebounds. Rollins was a winner over Palm Beach Atlantic by 29 in the game before that.
Sam Philpott leads the way for the Tars averaging 14.7 points and grabbing 4.4 rebounds a night- Jeff Merton is second on the team in scoring at 13.9 a game and leads the team averaging 5.6 rebounds a contest. Connor McKim averages 10.8 points and 3.8 assists a night- while Joey Galvis scores double digits and is 17th in the country with a SSC leading 53 steals. The Tars average 80.7 a game on the offensive end- while they give up 80.3 a game on the defensive end. Rollins has been a very good 3-point shooting team all season- as they lead the SSC shooting 41 percent from the 3-point line. Rollins 247 3-pointer's are 17th in the country.
Barry (19-4 12-4 SSC) is coming off a pair of losses last week. First they lost by one to Palm Beach Atlantic and then last time out they were a 10 point loser (86-76) to Tampa which broke a 31 game home win streak for the Bucs. Barry has a slim half game lead on Eckerd for the top seed in the SSC tournament with three games to play.
The Bucs high-powered offense is sixth in the nation averaging 91.6 points per game on the season- at the defensive end they give up 80.4 points a game. Last week they averaged just 75.5 points a game in the two losses. They do lead the nation in assists per game though.
Adrian Gonzalez paced the Buccaneers averaging 19 points and 4.4 rebounds a game- Elvar Fridriksson averages 15.7 points and is sixth in all of DII averaging 7.6 assists a contest. Arie Williams (13.1 ppg-) and Sawyer Gillick (12 a contest) also average double figures.
The first meeting this season saw the Bucs roll past the Tars 90-70 in Miami Shores. Philpott led the Tars with 14- while Gillick led the Bucs with 27. Barry has won five of the past six meetings between the two teams. It is Rollins who holds the 46-23 edge all-time though.
