The Rollins College Tars trailed 55-45 with 10 minutes to go on Saturday at Warden Arena but rallied to win 70-69. The big reason why was the bench. Chris Malcolm, Alex Castillo and Brett Chance sparked a 22-5 Tars run and they hung on late. The Tars actually led by 10 (66-56) with two minutes to go before Eckerd almost made the lead disappear late. John Harper hit a pair of three's and Alex Castillo committed a intentional foul with 2 seconds left and Rollins up 3. Woody Taylor hit both free throws but Nick Wolf picked off the inbounds pass to preserve the Tars hard fought 70-69 win.
The Tars improved to 11-4 and 3-1 in the SSC. Nick Wolf playing with a heavy wrap over his injured left hand recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Myk Brown had 20 for the Tars. The story of this game though was the 24 points Rollins got off the bench. Chris Malcolm (9 points, several altered shots and one huge defensive play in the waning seconds where he made the ball change directions. Brett Chance had 4 points, Trip McFall 3 and Alex Castillo 8 including 6 of 6 at the foul line). Rollins shot 39% from the field and made just 6 of 20 from three point range. The Tars were a lethal 84% (26-31) at the free throw line. The Tars only had 10 turnovers and had 10 steals.
The Tritons fell to 11-3 and 2-2 in the SSC with a second straight loss. Three Eckerd players scored in double figures on the day. John Harper led all scorers with 21 points including 5 triples.
