Despite 27 points from Myk Brown the Rollins College Tars (16-10 9-7 SSC) fell 90-79 to the the Sharks of Nova Southeastern at the "Shark Tank" Saturday afternoon. Chris Malcolm added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Tars.
Nova improved to 13-13 overall and 7-9 in the SSC with the win. Three Sharks tallied double numbers on the day. Teddy Tassy led NSU with 25 points, Sean Mullan had 19 and Shaun Pratl had 16 for the Sharks.
The Tars jumped out to the early lead and led 12-8 after the game's first five minutes. NSU fought back and tied the game at 20 before a 5-0 Tar run gave them a 25-20 advantage at 7:13 in the opening half. NSU would fight back again and lead 32-31 with 1:48 in the opening half. Jeff Dirkin hit a three for the Tars to give them a 34-32 lead. NSU would get a huge momentum boost at the first half buzzer as Tim Traversa's three would give the Sharks a 35-34 lead at the half.
The Tars played a solid opening ten minutes of the second half and led 52-49 with 10 minutes to go. Then the Sharks would use a 12-0 run to take a 73-57 lead with 5:42 to go. The Tars would not go quietly and would get to within five with 3:41 to play but NSU would use solid foul shooting late to seal it.
Rollins shot 61 percent in the opening half and 45 percent in the game. Nova shot 63 percent int he second stanza and 52 percent in the contest. Each team tallied 30 rebounds.
