The Rollins College Tars snapped a three game losing slide with a hard fought 61-58 win over Lynn at Warden Arena Wednesday. Chris Malcolm poured in a game high 21 points to lead the Tars 15-8 (8-5 SSC). The Senior transfer from Winthrop went 5 of 5 from the floor including a pair of three's. He also added six blocked shots. Malcolm trails Craig Reichel by one rejection to lead the Tars all time. Jeremy Sharpe continued his scoring surge of late with 18 Wednesday, while Myk Brown added 10. The win for the Tars completed a season sweep of Lynn. The Tars shot 40 percent as a team and hit 8 of 19 3-pointers. The Tars were 21-27 at the foul line (78 percent). They had nine assists to go along with 14 turnovers.
The loss dropped the Fighting Knights to 13-12 overall (6-7 SSC). Lynn shot 35 percent from the floor and hit just 5 of 26 from the 3-point line. They shot 72 percent (13-18) at the foul line. The Fighting Knights crushed Rollins on the glass 44-25. They had 13 assists and 12 turnovers.
Rollins was the team that jumped out to the early lead Wednesday. After scoring just 28 points combined in the last two opening halves the Tars took a 16-5 lead nine minutes into this one. Lynn would battle back and get to within three (21-18) with 5:45 in the half. The Tars would close the half with a spurt and lead 35-22 on a Jeremy Sharpe 3-pointer at the buzzer.
The second half would be hard fought and the Fighting Knights would give Rollins all they could handle. After Lynn got within four, a Jeremy Sharpe dunk would give the Tars a 50-44 lead. The Knights would fight back once again and would have a brief lead (57-56) with 1:36 to go. Malcolm would hit a pair of free throws to give Rollins the lead back. After a defensive stand where Diakite and Malcolm would each block a shot Jeremy Sharpe hit a pair of free throws with seven seconds left. The Tars would then foul DeMarco Fountain who hit one of the two free throws. Diakite would rebound the miss and hit one free throw to get the Tars the big win they desperately needed.
