The Rollins College Tars (14-6 7-3 SSC) and the Eckerd Tritons (14-5 7-3 SSC) will battle at the McArthur Center in St.Pete on Saturday. The two teams are two of three teams (Florida Tech the other) tied at 7-3 in the conference.
The Tars are coming off a 98-88 loss to last place Tampa on Wednesday at Warden Arena. The Spartans came into the contest averaging 54.9 points a game and hung 98 on the hosts. After starting the season 7-0, the Tars are just 7-6 in the past 13 contests. Jeremy Sharpe led the Tars with 27 points on Wednesday and leads the season box score averaging 12.5 points a game. Myk Brown (12.4), Dave Diakite (12) and Chris Malcolm (10.8 ppg) also score double figures. Ian Scott is the only Tar starter not averaging double figures, but he leads the team in assists at 4.4 a contest. The Tars score 71 points a game as a team, while giving up 67 a night. They fell to second in the league in field goal percentage defense at 40 percent after a poor defensive performance on Wednesday. The Tars are 5-1 in true road games on the season. The only loss was a 14 point defeat at Florida Tech.
Eckerd comes into the game riding a three game win streak. The Tritons are coming off a 78-72 win over Nova Southeastern at the Don Taft University Center on Wednesday. Lance Kearse poured in a game high 30 points in the win. The Tritons come into the contest averaging 75.7 points per game, while giving up 68.1 per game. Eckerd is 7-1 on the season at the McArthur Center including 4-0 in league play. Lance Kearse paces the Tritons at 17.6 points per game, Wayne Sears Jr.puts in 12.7 a contest and Darrien Mack nets 12.3 per game.
