#5 Southern Sneaks Past Tars.

For the second time in a week the Rollins Tars were a battle with a top five team in the country- and- for the second time in a week Rollins came up just short. This time they held the high octane Florida Southern offense to 77 points- but fell 77-72 at Jenkins FieldHouse. With the loss Rollins falls to 12-11 and 6-9 in the SSC. FSC improves to 22-2 and 14-2 in the SSC with a 10th consecutive victory.
 Rollins was led by a trio of players in double figures. Jakobi Bonner led the way with 22 points- Hutton Yenor netted 15 off the bench- and- Brooks Cluxton narrowly missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Rollins shot 42 percent as a team- 48 percent (10-21) from the 3-point line- and- 80 percent (12-15) from the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 38-33. The Tars had 17 assists- and- 14 turnovers in the contest. The back court of Dayton Gumm and Connor McKim combined to go 3-22 from the floor and scored just nine points in the defeat.
 The Mocs were led by four players in double figures. Jalyn Hinton stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points- four rebounds- two assists- and- four blocks. Brandon Carroll came off the bench to score 16- Brett Hanson added 15- and- EJ Dambreville tallied 13 points and nine rebounds. FSC shot 48 percent from the floor- 35 percent (9-26) from the 3-point line- and- 63 percent (12-19) from the free throw line. The Mocs had 16 assists- and- seven turnovers as a team.
 Rollins took a 11-10 lead early after a Bonner 3-pointer. Both teams would then go cold and the next basket wouldn't come until a Trevor Recio layup at the 12:43 mark. It would be 19-17 Rollins halfway thru the opening half as Gumm would hit his lone 3-pointer of the contest. The game would knotted at 22 with under 10 to play in the opening half before Carroll put the Mocs on top with a triple with 732 to go in the opening stanza.  Rollins went on top 32-31 after a McKim 3-pointer with 4:05 in the opening stanza. Sheldon Odunna ould hit a three of his own to stretch the lead to four. Yenor would hit from long range and the Tars now led 38-31. Rollins would take a seven point lead (40-33) into the locker room.
 Bonner led Rollins with 10 in the opening half- while Yenor added eight. They shot 44 percent from the field- 64 percent (7-11) from the 3-point line- and- 71 percent (5-7) at the free throw line. The Tars had 10 assists- and- six turnovers in the opening stanza.
 The Mocs shot 45 percent in the first 20 minutes- 29 percent (4-14) from the 3-point line- and- 60 percent (3-5) from the free throw line. The Mocs had 10 assists- and- three turnovers in the half.
 Cluxton scored the first four points of the second half and the lead was 11 (44-33) in favor of the visitor's. After a Jair Rodgers 3-pointer at the 11:41 mark the game was knotted at 50. Rollins would grab the lead right back. as they would go on a 7-0 run capped by a Yenor 3-pointer to make it 57-50 halfway thru the second stanza. Bonner made two free throws that made it 59-54 at the 8:27 mark. It stayed that way until a Hinton layup at 7:06- but Bonner would knock down a triple to make it a six point Rollins lead with under seven minutes left. Cluxton made two free throws with 4:55 to go and that meant the lead was five (67-62.) Southern would then go on a 8-0 run before a Bonner 3-ball knotted the game at 70 with 1:50 remaining. A Carroll 3-pointer with 53 seconds left would prove to be the game winner. The Mocs would ice the game at the free throw line.
