The Rollins Tars bounced back after a rough game Wednesday night in Daytona to sweep Tampa after a 87-74 win at Warden Arena inside the Alfond Sports Center. With the win the Tars improve to 11-9 and 5-7 in the SSC. Tampa falls to 6-15 and 3-10 in the SSC.
Rollins was led by Hutton Yenor who had 20 points off the bench- while Jakobi Bonner- and- Connor Mckim tallied 18. Mckim also had five assists. Brooks Cluxton also scored in double figures with 12. Rollins shot 60 percent from the field- 45 percent (9-20) from the 3-point line- and- 75 percent (12-16) at the free throw line. They had 18 assists and six turnovers as a team.
Tampa was led by Pat Bacon with 24- Martin Lakovic added 17- and- Derrick Felder netted 15. They shot 51 percent from the field- 50 percent (8-16) from the 3-point line- and- 80 percent (20-25) from the free throw line. The Spartans won the rebounding battle 27-24. They had 13 assists- and- 15 turnovers in the contest.
The two teams would go back and forth early before the Tars went up nine (17-8) after a Dayton Gumm 3-pointer. Gumm returned after missing the last couple weeks to injury. Tampa came back and took a 27-26 lead after a Gio Diaz 3-pointer with 7:21 in the half. The Spartans held the lead for much of the rest of the half until a Mckim jumper with 15 seconds to go in the opening stanza made it 39-38 in favor of the home standing Tars.
Rollins would then regain the lead at the 11:17 mark after a Yenor jumper but again the Spartans would knot the game this time at 56. Rollins could not stretch the lead past five points until a pair of Mckim free throws at the 4:28 mark. The Spartans got within five but a Bonner 3-pointer- and- a dunk by Yenor made it 80-70 with three minutes left. The Tars would cruise to victory from there.
