The Rollins Tars held Saint Leo without a field goal for the final 3:06 and walked away with a 65-62 win at the Marion Bowman Activities Center Saturday. With the win Rollins improves to 12-10 and 6-8 in the SSC. Saint Leo falls to 14-9 and 8-7 in the SSC after the defeat.
Rollins was led by a trio of players in double figures. Connor Mckim led the way with 17 points- Hutton Yenor added 15 off the bench- and- Jakobi Bonner chipped in 13. The Tars shot 48 percent from the floor- 39 percent (7-18) from the 3-point line- and- 75 percent (12-16) at the free throw line. The Tars had 12 assists- and- 10 turnovers in the contest.
Kyran McClure poured in 31 points to lead the Lions- while Isaiah Hill added eight. They shot 37 percent from the field- 36 percent (11-31) from the 3-point line- and- 93 percent (13-14) at the free throw line. The Lions won the rebounding battle 31-29. They had 12 assists- and- 13 turnovers as a team.
Both teams were cold to start the game as the Lions took a 4-0 lead three minutes in before a Trevor Recio dunk cut the lead in half. After a McClure 3-pointer the Lions led 13-2. The Tars would trail 18-12 after a Brooks Cluxton layup at the 9:41 mark of the half. After a Recio free throw the game was tied at 27 with 3:33 in the opening stanza. The game would be knotted at 34 at halftime.
Rollins would take the lead on a Mckim triple at the 19:19 mark. Parker Davis would hit a free throw to give the Tars a brief 45-44 lead. The tars trailed by six (58-52) after another McClure 3-pointer. A Yenor 3-ball at the 5:16 mark knotted the game at 60. A McKim layup at the 2:42 mark gave the Tars the lead they would not relinquish. McClure had a three to tie it at the buzzer but it would not fall.
